Vir Das, the renowned stand-up comedian and actor, known for his wit and honest opinions, has shared his thoughts on Aamir Khan's latest film, 'Sitaare Zameen Par', which premiered on Friday, June 20. The movie, a remake of the Spanish film 'Champions', features children with disabilities alongside Aamir Khan and Genelia D'souza Deshmukh.
Das expressed his admiration for the film, highlighting its humor and heartwarming nature. He wrote, "Folks! Go see #SitaareZameenPar. Not just because it’s REALLY good and breezy. Not just because the ensemble wins your heart. Not just because it’s someone of massive stature constantly sharing his platform for meaningful content. Not just because it’s a departure from the action overload. But also because it’s genuinely funny."
He further elaborated on the film's comedic strength, stating, "In a comedy scene one party has to hold power and drive... That’s basic comedy 101. The best comedy surprises you with that choice. It wears its heart on its sleeve and gives power, prominence, and punch lines to those comedy normally doesn’t. That makes it WAY funnier. Go see it! In theatres now."
Despite predictions of a single-digit opening due to its niche target audience, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' exceeded expectations. Trade analysts initially estimated a first-day earning of Rs 7-8 crore, but the film garnered approximately Rs 11.7 crore, according to Sacnilk. With positive word-of-mouth, the film is anticipated to experience further growth over the weekend.
