Kajol is returning to the big screen in Ajay Devgn's production, Maa, a mythological drama set to release on June 27th, 2025. This comes after her OTT debut in 'The Trial.' During Maa's promotion, Kajol shared her aversion to horror films, contrasting with her family's love for the genre, and humorously revealed how she watches them without sound.
This film marks Kajol's return to cinemas two years after her OTT debut in the series, The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha. During the promotional phase for The Trial, Kajol playfully mentioned her husband when asked which real-life person she would like to put on trial.
"I’d put Ajay Devgn on trial and I don't even need to give any reason for it. Being a husband is more than a reason to put him on trial — and knowing him, he will even accept the charges," the actress quipped. Her statement instantly became a viral sensation, celebrated by fans for the couple's signature playful banter and comfortable relationship.
Now, the celebrated duo is set to collaborate again professionally. Maa is already being touted as one of Kajol’s most emotionally intense performances in recent years. The film follows a mother’s journey as she navigates personal loss, resilience, and sacrifice. Industry insiders describe the film as showcasing Kajol in a role with considerable emotional depth.
During the promotions for Maa, Kajol confessed her aversion to the horror genre. "There are so many things in life that scare you naturally. You don't have to watch a movie, basically," she stated. Despite her personal feelings, she is surrounded by family members who are avid horror fans. "My husband, my son, my nephews — everybody around me loves, loves, loves horror. They watch at least one film every week. Come hell or high water."
Kajol admits to watching a few horror classics, but with a unique approach. "I watch these films without sound. Without sound, I’m not that scared," she revealed with a laugh. It’s a technique that many cautious viewers can likely relate to – muting the startling moments while still enjoying the eerie visuals.
