Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone, needing just 97 runs to become the quickest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. The talented left-hander is aiming to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's 49-year-old record when India takes on England in the second Test at Edgbaston, commencing on July 2nd.

Jaiswal's consistent performance has been a major positive for India, especially during this transitional phase in Test cricket. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley showcased his potential, although it couldn't prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting England a challenging target of 371 runs, India was taken by surprise by the composed chase led by Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, giving England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Team India is preparing intensely for the 2nd Test against England at Edgbaston.
Jaiswal's individual form provides a glimmer of hope for India as they seek to rebound at Edgbaston. In his 20 Tests thus far, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in his 23rd Test back in 1976. Gavaskar later became the first cricketer to surpass 10,000 Test runs in his career. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow on the list, reaching 2,000 runs in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant stroke play and remarkable composure, Jaiswal has the opportunity to join and even surpass these legends, providing India with a much-needed boost in this must-win Test match.
