Why do I need an arrangement

There are several interpretations of the word “arrangement”. In the Soviet methodology, it meant transferring finished music to another performing staff, for example, from a piano to a four-voice choir, from a vocal duet to a trombone duet with balalaika. When the subject of instrumentation begins at a music school, students begin to get confused – how is the arrangement different from instrumentation. Another interpretation is variation, i.e. approximately the same changes as when composing variations: changes in tempo, rhythm, size, style. At the same time, significant changes are often made to the author’s melody.

The arrangement can go so far that it completely replaces the original music with another one that is not Continue reading

Recording History

Today, the main recording methods include:
– mechanical
– magnetic
– optical and magneto-optical sound recording
– solid state flash memory recording

Attempts to create devices that could reproduce sounds were made in ancient Greece. In the IV-II centuries BC e. there were theaters of self-propelled figures – androids. The movements of some of them were accompanied by mechanically extracted sounds folding into melodies. Continue reading

Non-linear hearing

For the normal average organ of hearing of a person, there are some limit (threshold) minimum values of the physical parameters of the sound field, at which there is still an auditory sensation. Such a threshold of audibility is the standardized sound intensity I0 = 10 … 12 W / m2 (close to the threshold of audibility at f = 1000 Hz in silence), as well as the corresponding sound pressure p0 = 2 * 10-5 Pa and sound energy density e03 * 10-15 J / m3. The hearing threshold is private dependent. Above the threshold of hearing is the hearing area. In fig. 1 shows a curve of the threshold of audibility. The upper threshold of audibility is also shown there, above which the destruction of the organ of hearing can occur – the pain threshold, which corresponds to pressure pmax = 150 … 200 Pa, which exceeds 107 times p0 = 2 * 10-5 Pa.
